The story really isn't that important for me, since Sin and Punishment is really a short game. I found myself using the auto fire mode on flying enemies, while using the manual fire mode mostly on heavy enemies and bosses. It is less destructive than manual fire though. With manual, you have to aim your gun by yourself, but with auto fire, after locking onto a target, the gun automatically hits that target. It's a simple but successful idea implented into the game really nice. Sure, on-rails shooters such as the Time Crisis serie have the duck button, which is cool, but this is what Sin and Punishment has to offer, and you will guarantee need to dodge lots of times.Īnother feature I like is the ability to choose between manual or auto fire during the whole game. What makes Sin and Punishment different from many other on-rails shooters though is the fact that you as the player can actually dodge enemy bullets by walking left or right, rolling left or right and jumping out of the way. On-rail shooters with great graphics compared with smoothness always has made the gameplay in them better for me. The graphics of the game are superior to most N64 games too. This is easily like many other people my favorite level in the game, and it reminded me of how much I love the Area 6 level in Starfox 64. The infamous Aircraft Carrier level is pure awesomeness, and my god it performs smoothly as the main characters fly through all of it, I can't believe the Nintendo 64 could perform this magic. As you figure out how to shoot, never let go of the fire button, unless you must slice enemies from close by. The first level is so easy to call an intro level though, letting you practice to take down hordes of Ruffians, one of the enemy forces in Sin and Punishment. No story, no introductions, no heroic or dramatic entrances, just pure action. Once you push that start button in the main menu, the action instantly begins. But I am sure that many of us have played a short game before but were extremely satisfied with the little time they were playing the game's length. It's true that Sin and Punishment is a short game. This eccentric game is a 3D on-rails shooter taking place on the ground while occasionally changing to a 2/2.5D view. I like to call Sin and Punishment a special and unique N64 game, something unlike anything else. 7 years later, thanks to the calls of enthousiastic gamers, and the fact that this little gem could talk a little bit of English as well, it found it's way to the West. Near the end of the N64's lifespan, this little gem found it's way by discovering the land of the rising sun Japan. In the deep corners of the Nintendo 64's game library, there was this little gem, forgotten to be accompinied by it's fellow gems to travel the whole world.

Sleep loss can lead to an increased prevalence of diabetes and obesity. Scientists are increasingly linking weight gain and poor metabolism to sleep deprivation, so getting a good night’s sleep should be part of your health, fitness and weight-loss strategy. Sleep monitoring: Fitbit win, Apple improving When you log your meals each day you can set a Fitbit Food Plan that estimates your daily calorie consumption, and records the number of calories you have burned and eaten so far in the day. You can also manually log fitness activities, so the calories burned during those activities are also taken into account. When you sync your tracker, Fitbit replaces the estimated calorie burn with your tracker’s data. The trackers that measure heart rate go into more detail, with the calorie burn estimate taking heart rate into account.įitbit calorie tracking begins at midnight and incorporates the calories burnt while sleeping-which is obviously missed by the Apple Watch that has to charge overnight. The latest Apple Watch versions also do this.įitbit estimates the number of calories burned based on your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), calculated using your height, weight, age, and gender. The likes of the Versa and Sense recognize when you’re running and automatically enter Run Mode -starting the GPS or connected GPS-and even automatically pause when you do. If you set your calorie-burn target high on the Apple Watch you’ll need to walk the equivalent of 20,000 Fitbit steps. (Technical bit: Resting Metabolic Rate is not the same as Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which excludes the calories burned digesting food.) Your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the number of calories that your body burns while you are at complete rest (with muscles relaxed, such as asleep) to keep itself alive (sustain vital organs such as your heart, brain, nervous system, lungs, kidneys, liver, muscles, and skin) and digest food. Fitbit allows for “resting calories” too. The Move ring is interested in Active, not Resting calories, which is a little more rigorous than Fitbit’s approach. Unlike Fitbit, Apple splits apart “resting calories” (calories you burn just by existing) and “active calories” (burnt through more vigorous activity). As you continue to wear your Apple Watch it will better learn your habits, average heart rate ranges, and normal activity levels, helping to make calorie counts more accurate. The Apple Watch uses motion and heart rate data to determine calorie count, which then dictates the Move metric of the Activity app. watchOS 9 features a raft of new features and improvements, including car crash detection Heart Rate Zones customizable workouts a Multisport workout that automatically switches between any sequence of swimming, biking, and running Race Route, which lets you compete against your best time running or biking a familiar route Automatic track detection Running Form metrics Running Power Medication logging and reminders Sleep Stages AFib History Temperature changes and more.įitbit says that the Sense and Versa 3 have also improved heart-rate measurement, as the LED sensors have closer contact with the wrist. The Apple Watch Series 8 comes with watchOS 9 pre-installed. The Watch’s built-in heart-rate monitor does support external heart-rate monitors too.Īpple has improved the Heart Rate app, which now measures you r resting heart rate and your recovery heart rate, and can give you notifications if anything seems awry. However, it does record your heart rate continuously when the Workout app is turned on, so you get constant feedback during training sessions. To truly reimagine email – for many, still an essential component of a daily workflow – a mobile client would have to bring the intelligence and versatility of a mobile-first world to the stale nature of email protocols. Our smartphones and tablets have a much deeper understanding of our schedule, files, location, contacts, and most used apps than they did eight years ago – a knowledge certainly superior to any desktop computer. Today, being “desktop-class” is almost a liability for apps. When Apple introduced Mail for iPhone in 2007, they bragged about its desktop-class approach to email on a portable device. It’s also fundamentally limited and incomplete, with a vision that isn’t fully realized yet but promising potential for the future. I’ve been using Spark for the past three weeks, and it’s the most versatile email client for iPhone I’ve ever tried. By combining smart features with thoughtful design, Readdle is hoping that Spark won’t make you dread your email inbox, knowing that an automated system and customizable integrations will help you process email faster and more enjoyably. To achieve this, Readdle has built Spark over the past eighteen months on top of three principles: heuristics, integrations, and personalization. Spark by Readdle, a new email app for iPhone released today, wants to enhance email with intelligence and flexibility. Each one revolutionary and shortsighted in its own way, always far from the utopia of email reinvention on mobile. I’ve seen email clients for iOS rise and fall (and be abandoned) I’ve tried many apps that promised to bring email in the modern age of mobile and cloud services but that ultimately just replaced existing problems with new ones. Part of the problem has been the Sisyphean effort of third-party apps that tried to modernize email: the more developers attempted to reinvent it, the more antiquated standards, platform limitations, and economic realities kept dragging them down. I’ve had a complicated relationship with email over the years. Please leave a comment below about your thoughts on what languages you’d like to see in the future from any linguistic platform. If Duolingo is reading this, I would enjoy a collaboration or a Zoom coffee break meet-up. Lastly, I am not receiving any endorsement for this post from Duolingo nor from any other entity. Among many factors, they look at the volunteers’ quantity and quality, general interest, etc. However, it does not share which languages they are interested in adding next. Use key words to search for how to make the course and what it takes to see a course through. What is Duolingo looking for? That’s the question, isn’t it? The company does a good job providing an overview on the blog. Some courses are no longer in production: Swedish for Turkish speakers, Hindi for Bulgarian speakers, English for Hebrew speakers, & Hindi for Gujarati speakers. Two courses hatched out of incubation: Finnish for English speakers & German for Dutch speakers. Yes, 6 out of 17 courses had 0 contributors when I made my note. However, I can note approximately how close to completion certain courses were. I didn’t track the anticipated release date at that time. Target LanguageĬhart from the Duolingo Incubator as of. The asterisk means that the course was still being developed according to the chart farther done on. The release date is what the volunteers had previously anticipated for the course to be public. Contributors are the volunteers working on the course, although some freelancers are hired to keep courses going. However, some volunteers have changed the ETA (estimated time of arrival) of the finished product. Several courses initially gave the impression that they will be completed soon. The Incubator currently has 22 total courses being developed (not yet in Beta). Hence the importance of these charts.īelow is a table from. Unlike other websites which have internet archives, I am unable to locate any for Duolingo’s Incubator. Thus, I am sharing the charts to keep a close eye on progress. I am curious about how courses end and continue development through volunteer management and community enthusiasm. For whatever reason though, it is no longer being developed. In 2014-15, I was at university when the course first appeared in the app’s Incubator. How does a course graduate from beta? Ī course typically graduates from beta when the Duolingo team and the incubator contributors believe a course is stable and receives less than 3 reports per 100 users. As I state in the biography on my Twitter and Instagram profiles, I really want to see Duolingo add a Catalan for English speakers course. How long courses stay in beta will vary, but the average duration is 7 or 8 months. How long does a course stay in beta (Phase 2)? Anyone can sign up to take a beta (Phase 2) course on the website. It means that it's a relatively new course and there might be some errors, so it's going through a "beta" or testing phase before it's "officially" released. What is the minimum number of contributors required? ĭuolingo will always require 2 qualified moderators per course. They are also receiving thousands of applications for Incubator contributors and those take some time to go through. Why haven't I heard back on my application yet? ĭuolingo is rolling out new Incubator courses slowly at first, so it may take some time before they are ready to incubate the course you applied for. Much of an original course's content will also be used to create its "reverse course", so by contributing to one course direction you will also be contributing to the opposite direction as well. The Duolingo staff will review applications for both directions when assembling a team for either direction. No, you only need to apply for one of the directions. Do I need to apply separately for each direction? I want to help create courses in both directions between two languages. If the language you want to teach to or from is not listed in the drop-down menus, select "Enter Other" and type it in. If you're fluent in both languages, you can apply to help create a Duolingo course on the incubator website. The list of languages along with the "Enter Other" option. The choice of languages being added to the incubator depends on a lot of factors including Duolingo's internal knowledge of them. The Duolingo language Incubator is where bilingual volunteers from around the world connect to build new language courses for Duolingo.

When the round is larger than 9 inches for a small tart, or 12 inches for a large tart, and about 1/8 inch thick, turn a 9- or 12-inch plate or bowl upside down on the dough as a template and cut around it with a sharp knife. Rotate the dough 1/4 turn each time you roll to be sure the dough is not sticking and use additional flour as necessary. Start with the pin in the middle of the round and roll to the top, then to the bottom. Begin to roll out the dough, using quick but gentle strokes with the pin. Shape 1 piece into a disk and dust the top lightly with flour. Turn the pastry dough out on a lightly floured board and divide it into quarters for small 7-inch tart shells or in half for large 10-inch shells. If your kitchen is very warm, wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for about 15 minutes. If your kitchen is reasonably cool, the butter was cold, and you used ice water, the dough should be at just the right stage of malleability for rolling out, and it will be easiest to work with immediately. If it seems dry and crumbly, cautiously add more water a few teaspoons at a time until you can squeeze it into a ball that will not crumble when broken apart. The dough should have just enough moisture to stay together. Squeeze a handful of the dough in your palm. Spread the fingers of one hand as if you were about to grab a large ball, and using your rigid fingertips as if they were a large fork, stir the dough quickly and briefly until the liquid is incorporated. Sprinkle 6 tablespoons of ice water onto the dough. When the butter pieces are the correct size, transfer the mixture to a large mixing bowl. If there are larger pieces, continue to pulse the mixture. The largest pieces of butter should be the size of raw grains of rice or barley. Pulse about 24 times, then open the machine and lift a handful of crumbs. Place the flour, butter, and salt in a food processor fitted with a steel blade. The inferior surface of a vertebral body is attached to an intervertebral disc, which then attaches to the superior surface of a vertebral body beneath it. Inferior articular joints (2 per vertebra: left and right).Superior articular joints (2 per vertebra: left and right). There are three major joints in each vertebra: Here, we focus on the joints common to each region. 2īefore introducing each vertebral region, we will explore the different joints in the vertebral column. The different anatomical regions of a typical vertebra. They assist in limiting movements in certain regions of the spine and are a site for many ligaments to attach to.įigure 2. The spinous processes are postero-inferior projections of bone that exit the vertebral arch posteriorly from the midline. They serve different purposes in different regions of the spine, such as carrying blood vessels or forming attachment sites for the ribs. The transverse processes of the vertebral column are projections of bone that arise from the same place as the articular processes and travel laterally. This process can extend superiorly to form the superior articular process, or inferiorly to form the inferior articular process.Īt the tips of these articular processes are articular facets, which form a (zygapophyseal) joint with adjacent vertebrae to improve stability within the vertebral column. The articular processes are small protrusions of bone extending from the junction between the pedicles and laminae. The laminae have a postero-inferior extension known as the spinous process. When the lamina and pedicles are referred to collectively, they are known as the vertebral arch. The vertebral arch forms the posterior margin of the spinal canal. The vertebral arch refers to the semicircular ring of bone that connects the two vertebral pedicles. Articular processes (superiorly and inferiorly). They help to form the lateral margin of the spinal canal, and give rise to four important structures: With a name derived from the Latin pediculus, meaning “ little foot,” the pedicles are two small posterior projections of the vertebral body. Two projections exit either side of a vertebra posteriorly: the pedicles. These discs help to cushion shock as forces are transmitted through the vertebral column and contributes to improving the range of motion between vertebrae. The vertebral bodies of two adjacent vertebrae are connected to intervertebral discs. This trabecular bone is of vital importance to haematopoiesis, or blood cell production, as it contains red bone marrow. Within the cortical bone is a dense network of trabecular bone. The vertebral body is surrounded by cortical (compact) bone. This is, in part, due to the increased mass placed on each vertebral body. The vertebral body becomes larger and provides more stability as the vertebral column moves inferiorly from the cervical region. 1 BodyĪlmost all vertebrae in the human vertebral column contain a vertebral body.
